Kanske är det längtan is a book for young adults. The title is swedish for “Maybe it is longing” and it reflects the distance the main character Viola feels to her recently left home town hundreds of miles away but also the distance to the new boy she starts to get to know in the big city. I wanted to pick up on this gap that is depicted. To avoid cheesyness I created two somewhat abstract but human shapes relating to each other on the front page, separated by a black gap. The black areas also have a gloss layer to let the aspect of emptiness shine when viewing the physical book. I then let the red shape float over to the back side and end in a sharp shape which creates a surprise heart together with the front when the book is opened. Published 2022 by VOX by Opal.
