Redesign of The Principals of The New Typography, written by Jan Tschihold in 1920
This publication is a reaction and a redesign of the modernist typographical manifesto: The Principals of The New Typography, written by Jan Tschihold in 1920. The theme was “Too Much” and my concept was to create the complete nightmare of mordenist typography. I apply compact and decorative design in contrast to the text’s praise for purity, using sans serif typography and “consciously white areas”. I custom made an initial font and added a exaggerated metal binding to the thin red paper. The initials spell out Tshicholds keywords such as “direct” and “pure” and the title is overexposed by act of repetition. Using the whole background excessivly instead of a typical clear and central positioning.
